Dorotea Costantini. Corner TV Stand. October 20th , 2020.
When they came on the scene, television was not simply a piece of electronics. It was a piece of furniture in its own right. The screen was built into the furniture. In our current market, this would be known as a console television set. For many years, this was how we expected televisions to look. At the time, even having a television was a luxury. To even own such a cutting edge piece of equipment was such status. The television set held a central spot in your living room. Living rooms needed to be sizable to accommodate such a large item. Televisions were anything but sleek. The entire decor had to focus around the televisions set.
Corner pieces have distinct advantages. Obviously, since they fit snugly in corners, they help maximize space use and make a room look less disorganized and tight. Corner television stands also make old TV models look less bulky since their backsides are neatly tucked into the angle of a corner. Finally, corner pieces allow greater viewing flexibility. In a square or rectangular room, anyone can watch TV almost from any angle.
Remember those bulky old television units that held the massive TVs of days gone by? Where the TV holding area was made specifically for TVs that had more body then screen? For a long time, there was no alternative to this type of set up. If you wanted to house your TV in anything that looked remotely decent it would need to be in the center of the room and you would require a relatively large amount of space for it to compliment the design of the room. Nowadays we have Plasma and LCD screens which don’t require vast amounts of space or large cabinets that look out of place. Manufacturers have come up with alternative designs and have introduced corner TV stands.
Entertainment furniture has also changed a lot over the years, with furniture companies scrambling to build a variety of models to suit the needs of consumers. For rooms that are short on space but still want to feature a television, corner TV stands are an obvious solution.
Compare those big, bulky sets to today’s televisions and you will see big changes. Today’s televisions are designed to fit in with the more modern design styles of our homes, no matter how large or small. The flat TV screen revolutionized designer opportunities for integrating the television into any home regardless of the decor style or theme.
If you take your television viewing pretty seriously you don’t want to have your TV set stuck in the corner of your room. If you use the sound directly from the TV the sounds get trapped in the corner. And if you use external sound it makes it tough to get the speakers positioned right, unless you have a huge room, in which case you won’t have your TV in the corner. It also makes the location of your furniture odd and potentially uncomfortable and offers you a poor view of your screen.
These stands help you to use the size and scheme of your room in a much more efficient manner, and they also help you to use the space within your home much more productively. Corner TV stands can be a fantastic solution for small areas where no other piece of furniture would work otherwise, allowing the homeowner to effectively decorate their home in the manner that they desire.
